Unpack that Panic: Top Tips For A Stress-Free Move

Whether you’re building your dream home or moving into a new property, there’s no denying that moving house can be stressful. In fact, according to a recent study, 9 in 10 recent movers found the process to be highly stress-inducing.

However, while there are some aspects of this process that lie beyond your control (like the state of the housing market), there are things you can do to make things run a little smoother.

With that in mind, here are some top tips that you can use to ‘unpack that panic’ and move home without the stress!

Stage your home for a quick sale.

One of the biggest causes of stress when moving house is selling your current property – especially if you need to move quickly. However, you could speed up this process by ensuring that you stage your home correctly ahead of viewings in order to capture the attention of potential buyers.

For example, you should start by decluttering your home. Not only will this come in handy when packing, but it’ll also give potential buyers a blank canvas to work with – making it easier for them to picture themselves living in your home.

On a similar note, you should also work to enhance your property’s curb appeal, as this will contribute significantly to their first impression of your property. For example, you may want to replace old patio pavers or do a spot of gardening. Either way, completing these tasks can speed up the sales process and drive up your asking price.

    Hire a removal team.

When it comes to moving, hiring a removal team to do the (literal) heavy lifting on your behalf is another excellent way to manage your stress levels. After all, when working with AFRA accredited interstate removalists, you can ensure that all of your belongings, from clothing and bulky furniture, are transported safely from your current home to your new one. This can save you a lot of time, energy and worry – and also drastically reduces the chances of something getting damaged during transit.

    Start packing early.

Packing to move home is an incredibly stressful experience – as you’re packing your entire life away into a few boxes. This means that many people put off packing for as long as possible, instead busying themselves with other tasks. However, the longer you put this off, the more stressed you will be as moving day draws nearer.

Instead, give yourself a head start by packing as soon as possible. For example, you could start by packing away items you definitely won’t use before moving and, therefore, won’t miss in the weeks running up to your move. This could include things such as Christmas decorations or out-of-season clothing.

When packing, label everything clearly, as this will make the unpacking and decorating process much easier in your new home. You should also pack one box full of essentials you’ll need as soon as you move and take this in your own car. This way, you can make sure of them right away.
